Cop dies on duty from natural causes

Officer Krista Davis succumbed to an aneurysm late last June. Previously, I was flippant and wrote with great sarcasm after reading her obituary that disclosed she had held an administrative position -not a beat job - with the Gwinnett County Police Department. I digressed and I sincerely apologize to those who knew and loved her, especially her husband and sons. It is a tragedy that a mother has had her life cut short and cannot be there for her sons' future joys and accomplishments.

Yet, I can't remain complacent. Because of her position of authority as a law enforcement officer whose primary job was to ensure the public trust. Her recent acts regarding the false imprisonment of a 'joint-custodial' mother have impacted the two young sons of Rita Hardin, Rita herself and the community at large. The 'fear and loathing' environment created by Rita's false imprisonment is undeniable. Rita's sons went without her loving presence for over a month of their young lives. Losing the comforting touch of a mom for such a long must have seemed like an eternity for them. It's a fact: Perceptually, time moves more slower for children than adults and as one ages time seems to move more quickly with each passing year.

And, as an added talking point, this case proves that it's all too easy for Georgia citizens to file false criminal charges against adversaries without credible supporting evidence.  Because of all too many vexatious claims of stalking and domestic violence, it is in the public's best interest to have Davis's record examined.

Ms. Davis was alleged to have said that Rita is the most violent person she's seen in all her 17 years on the force. Never minding of the fact that other officers didn't see what the big deal was and found the stalking complaints specious, Ms. Davis continued  to pursue two criminal charges of aggravated stalking without merit. According to Georgia statutes, the charges as they stand could possibly result in a verdict in a prison sentence of up to 10 years.  And for what? Trying to comply with 'joint custody' and 'shared parenting' orders?

I tried to talk to Ms. Davis after a municipal court hearing that failed to proceed because Rita's attorney didn't show up [he allegedly had another hearing in Cobb County. Too bad because his failure to appear resulted in Rita having to spend an additional two weeks in the Gwinnett County Jail] but the conversation with Ms. Davis wasn't productive. She was argumentative. Instead of listening to me, as one would expect of an officer of the law, she defended Andy Hardin and asked me if I had tried to contact him. I told her that I had not and that I was sure if I did Andy or his wife, Melissa, would consider that an evasion of their privacy and then use it to their advantage to have Rita arrested yet again for stalking. In response, I told her that I had read everything I needed to know  in Andy's and Melissa's own words on the 2nd Wives Club discussion boards, and that I was sure that whatever they would have to say about the stalking charges would only be a regurgitation of the revealing strategy on how to get his ex arrested. I wish to this day that I had not had this face-to-face discussion with Ms. Davis. She wouldn't shake my had when I introduced myself. She had a total look of disgust when I tried to question her, like a cockroach had approached her. It was unproductive and her persona left me with a negative image as in why even bother talking to people who aren't willing to engage in fact finding and then go on to obfuscate said facts.

"The problem with evidence is that it doesn’t always support your opinion." -- Stephen Colbert

"Action for it's own sake is seen as a good as a response even if it's not evidence driven, for good reason bad reason or no reason we need to act and actually the vice president at the start said look we need to do something.  We're not going to have evidence we're not going to meet that threshold  let's just look for anything that might be a 1% chance As the years pass we see the flip side of that we create essentially a counter response for problems we tend to solve we create 10 new problems." -- Ron Suskind "The One Percent Doctrine"

I truly wish that I could have had a more productive conversation with Ms. Davis, but that didn't happen. So, here are the facts that I am left with and wonder about. Could it be that all this travesty could have been avoided had there been more 'speak truth to justice?'

"LAWRENCEVILLE — Members of the local public safety community will gather today for a memorial service for a 37-year-old police officer who died unexpectedly from a brain hemorrhage this week.

"Officer Krista Davis was working in the Professional Standards Unit [not the criminal domestic violence unit] at Gwinnett County Police Department in Lawrenceville on Tuesday night when she felt a crippling pain in her head and went into a seizure, said her husband Spanky Davis, who also works for the Gwinnett County Police Department as the canine unit supervisor.

[...]

"Krista was a 17-year veteran of the police department whose primary duties included conducting background checks, interviews and physical fitness assessments for prospective employees." [emphasis added]

[...]

“Spanky Davis said his wife did not suffer from any serious pre-existing medical conditions.
She did have high blood pressure, but other than that everything was just totally a shock,” Spanky said when reached by phone at his Monroe home on Friday."

Still I chalk it up to bad karma, google's "don't do evil" and living a life of prevarication does eventually take its toll. Seriously, it's not worth it.

"Negative attitudes, such as anger, hostility, distrust, depression and anxiety are often contributing factors."
